Started Give and Take, a donation drive by residents for residents
“I hope people know it’s okay to ask for help and know where to seek help when they need it. #donotfeelpaiseh”
Julie has lived in Ang Mo Kio since 2017 and brings heart and community spirit to everything she does. As a single mother and cancer survivor who cares deeply for her two children and four cats, she understands the challenges others may face and demonstrates how one can remain resourceful and resilient despite difficulties. She began volunteering with Allkin Family Service Centre @ Cheng San 445 in 2019 and is deeply motivated to ensure others like her are not left behind. When she heard about a neighbour in need of basic necessities, Julie mobilised her circle of resident friends to start Give and Take, a donation drive to support fellow residents. In 2021, she was recognised by Allkin Singapore as its “Most Versatile Volunteer”. Julie is also a foodie at heart and is able to whip up a scrumptious meal for large crowds due to her prior experience of running her own food stall. She currently works as a social work assistant in a children’s home and finds happiness in being able to give back to the community.
